It was on. I had my ticket and was ready to go and play. It was being held at the “whatever establishment“ in Hamden Connecticut. Just like the old days, so I was off and running.
“I wonder if I’ll get to see some of the old faces?” I thought to myself as I sped off.
After some bad noise and some traffic I had arrived.
Valet parking and police at the entrance. It was going down at The Balcony Banquet Facility. I guess it’s one of the more hoity-toity places of the area. Ooo valet parking.
I checked my ticket one last time before heading inside and took one last look at my invitation.
It read:
Enjoy a fun filled evening at the new HighBazaar at The Balcony Banquet Facility. Come meet with all the local vendors along with an intimate music session with Sting. Admit 1 plus guest. 🤘🏻
I stepped inside and low and behold, this place is a palace. Very nice. I was excited to see some old faces, a freak show of some nature, and some sort of uncanny colored and smelling vegetative delights. I was excited. That was my queue to fire one up.
“Excuse me sir but you can’t smoke that in here.” said the gorilla-esk looking Brutus law enforcement agent.
“You’ll have to go out back where the food trucks are.” he finished.
Well, there’s that. I think I’ll go check out the vendors before I go hanging around outside like a hoodlum.
Then I found the vendor chamber. There they were… Willow Brook, Healing Corner, The Botanist, Southern CT, Still River, Prime, Fine Fettle, Caring Nature, Bluepoint, Curaleaf, and Affinity. All with their own little setups.
There were no free dabs or anyone giving out joints or anything. But after they all told me the same thing 11 times, I walked away with a fine assortment of pens and a couple of t-shirts. Hey! A couple of those pens had a stylus on them.
As far as what was there for product, it was all the same stuff from the dispensary. 11 vendors and a total of 4 product lines. This would be the equivalent of going to a beer festival and having vendors that only sold products by Anheuser Busch, Coors, Yuengling, and Sam Adams. I mean, it’s not terrible but it’s not that great either.
I took a stroll outside… I needed to clear my head because this was blowing my mind. So, I fired one up and wandered off to see if there were any medicated goodies in those food trucks. There was none. Only the prepackaged stuff from the vendors were available. So instead I bought a baked potato with all the trimmings. Don’t get me wrong, the potato was delicious but I wasn’t here for root based products.
I walked around a little bit but I didn’t know anyone. None of the patrons or anybody in dispensary anymore… No one. So, I left and headed for home. You can keep the Sting show, I’m good. Somebody give me a call when you have a show that will go over 3 dB.
When I got home I rocked a little bit. Then I laid down into the fetal position while sucking my thumb and holding my ear until I cried myself to sleep.
The End
Authors note:
This story, in case you haven’t realized already, is completely fabricated and did not happen. This creative piece of writing was inspired by this dumb article which you can read by clicking here.
But, if Hamden does set the rules in place for vendor gatherings the rules would have to be strictly enforced under the current legislation. Which in this case would limit the event to only the Connecticut dispensaries. Moving into the future we would see more of the new recreational dispensaries that are yet to happen attending an event like this. But it would go no further than that…
Maybe, but only maybe, they’ll let some of the CBD farmers come online and attend stuff like this too, but not yet.
It is just my humble opinion but this is the city of Hamden‘s way of thumbing their nose at the creators of HighBazaar, they would host it and the state would back it with a couple extra lame/silly rules. The only way it could be a bigger thumbing is if they host it at the same location.
HighBazaar will be an official gray Lego snapped right into the blank wall of the monoculture. Check.
But really folks, this is the only way it would go down right now. That’s all just way too sterile for me.
