I’ve been an ‘Industry Guy’ and a writer on this topic for a little over a decade now. Products have changed, methods of ingestion have changed, and the environments have changed. You know what has never changed? The stigma associated with Cannabis consumption; that’s never changed.
The image is always painted the same. Drum circles, hippies, and a cute girl with dread locks wearing patchouli trying to sell you a hemp bracelet, while it smells like someone set a skunk on fire 6 feet away from you. That’s just what most people think, mostly because they don’t know. Is that a side of it? Sure and those are fun events.
There will always be the ones that have to take it too far as well. They just need an out of body experience with a brownie. So, in some situations high dosing does occur. High dosing can be useful for those in extreme medical situations, so never rule it out. I can say it’s terrible in social situations. So one should start low and slow… like Micro-Dosing.
Micro-dosing is sort of an old concept. One hitters and things like that… But this concept has really become main stream in legal market places for both THC and CBD products. It’s a way to measure and a way of getting the benefits without getting too swirly. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…
How Micro-Dosing works is completely dependent on a variable of things. Your body (your age, weight, metabolism), what we consume (what we eat, drink, smoke, whatever…), and of course what your tolerance levels are. So in many cases this is not a one size fits all measurement. These are all important things to consider, which is why it’s important to also take your time.
Let’s say you’re like me, you like good old fashion flowers. There are some products that are like mini-bowls specifically designed to hold 50mg of flower. That will make it about 20 rounds per gram, not bad… And it makes it measurable. These are great for the first time consumer/patient due to their general ease of use.
I get it, even that could start getting complicated. Plus, what if you don’t want to smoke?
Legal states and market places have brought dosing to the norm. It’s become pretty mainstream at this point. .25mg – 10mg is generally considered micro-dosing. Edibles, tinctures, and beverages have become vastly popular and make measurement simple. These are actually the perfect design for delivering small measurable doses to an individual.
In many legal states, edibles have a milligram ceiling ranging from 5-10mg. In medical programs they can go much higher than that. Every gummy has a measured dose. Edibles have to be digested in order for them to take effect. One may not feel its potency for 1-2 hours and generally last 5-6hrs. So hold on buttercup you might be going for a ride.
Tinctures have measurements which allows for even deep levels of micro-dosing. Measured in 1ml droppers; with a consistent product, one could measure their dosing down to a .25ml dose if need be. Everybody is different, so this can be really helpful. These are generally applied under the tongue allowing to stand for 60-90 seconds before swallowing. Usually these take effect in 45 minutes while then lasting up to 8 hours. Even longer than an edible.
Then the beverages are measured per container. So, if you drink four 25mg CBD infused iced teas you have consumed 100mg of CBD. It’s that simple. Plus the drinks tend to be water soluble, which is really cool. Those don’t need to digest and just absorb through the stomach lining making them active in 5-10 minutes. Fast acting and last 3-5 hours.
Another great factor that has come to light from micro-dosing is the highlighting of other cannabinoids, not just THC and CBD products. Science has brought things like CBN and and CBG..
CBN (Cannabinol) is what happens to THC when it degrades. There is no euphoric sensation Associated with it however it does make us tired. Some studies have shown this little sleepy molecule to be just as effective as Ambien. But without any of the ridiculous side effects like sleepwalking, nighttime Munchies, liver damage, or waking up feeling groggy. Just a good nights sleep. Imagine that?
CBG (Cannabigerol) Is the God molecule and it all. CBG is the first molecule the plant produces when it begins to grow. As the plant matures that molecule breaks down and turns into everything else. This is where THC comes from, CBD, CBC, and every other cannabinoid know to mankind. A few studies have shown this to be an amazing antioxidant and a neuroprotective (I guess all those years of mom saying you were killing brain cells was wrong.🤣)
So aside from limiting your buzz, it’s the best and only way to figure out how much you need to alleviate the symptoms one might be experiencing. Calculations will generally be personalized, so if you can keep a journal it’ll help in determining what’s best for you as an individual. And always know your limits or one may find themselves uncomfortable depending on the cannabinoid we were focusing on.
