I was thumbing through the Stamford Advocate when I came across this article about cannabis clubs. The world of cannabis, once shrouded in the smoke of backroom deals and illicit transactions, has been thrust into the glaring light of legality. The days of clandestine exchanges are fading into the annals of history, replaced by a new era of tiered, paid membership clubs.
One of the largest cannabis companies in Connecticut, Verano, is launching the Cabbage Club, a program that allows customers to pay for cannabis with a credit card. This is a game-changer, my friends. The Cabbage Club is not just about selling cannabis, it’s about creating something bigger that can expand into the future.
For $149, “founding members” get a $10 monthly store credit and $25 worth of coupons seasonally. Those benefits double for $249. Members also get early access to new products, line-skipping privileges, and other perks. It’s not just about the green, it’s about the experience.
Verano sees this as the next phase in the cannabis market. They believe that the age of establishing a footprint and creating storefronts has come to its completion. Now, it’s about going beyond the transactional and creating something that can be scaled into the future.
Despite its growing legality, credit card companies have been unwilling to allow cannabis charges. But buying into the Cabbage Club is not a cannabis purchase, even though customers will be using their rewards to buy cannabis. This is a clever workaround, a way to create a frictionless customer experience more akin to what you might see within Amazon Go. It’s an old idea, but it’s a great work around to take credit cards.
This is the future, my friends. Another idea from the underbelly dragged out into the corporate limelight. A future where cannabis is just a product, with express check out. A future where cannabis is not just legal, but normalized. Welcome to the Cabbage Club. Welcome to the future.
