Through the rolling hills of Connecticut in North Stonington is a working farm. On the farm is an operating entity called Better Together Connecticut Inc. (Non-Profit) What they do there is both unique and amazing in their community and industry.
The farm is there as a retreat for veterans, first responders, and people within their community. In addition to being a retreat it also serves as a retraining program that is very uncommon within its industry. They do cool stuff like offer touch therapy with mini horses and teach regenerative farming. In fact, all crops that the farm generates are sold in their farm store, and are used in farm to table restaurants or given to seniors. The rest is donated to local school lunch programs. The one thing that makes them even more interesting is that they show everyone how to grow organic hemp.
The curriculum there covers all aspects from seed to sale of the product. Planting, growing, harvesting, drying, curing, extracting, product production, and labeling are covered in their courses. It is a full hands-on experience with the process. This not only offers a platform to learn new skills, but the right mindset behind the new skills will create new jobs. They are currently working on implementing a network so those that complete their curriculum have better access to jobs.

But in addition to all the cool things that these guys do, they like to celebrate just like the rest of us. With the recent passing of legalization here in Connecticut, Better Together Connecticut will be hosting their own Hempstock 2021. Official dates are August 14th and 15th of 2021. There’s going to be food, bands, speakers, and vendors galore. I’ll be speaking on the 15th. They want this to be big, and I mean huge. Who could blame them?
They are still in need of volunteers, sponsors, vendors and of course attendees like us. So let’s tell our friends to come out and go join Hempstock 2021 on August 13th, 14th and 15th 2021.
