What sort of Mickey Mouse, ironfisted type organization would want to ruin Christmas, birthdays, and anniversaries? And while they’re at it, they want to kill a few charities too. And what about patients who can’t afford their meds? What’s being created isn’t legalization, it’s prohibition with extra steps.
I’d like to bring attention to CT Raised Bill 5329. Lines 260 through 271.
States as follows:
Sec. 2. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2022) (a) Notwithstanding any provision of the general statutes, no person shall gift, sell or transfer cannabis to another person: (1) To induce, or in exchange for, any
donation for any purpose, including, but not limited to, any charitable donation or any donation made to gain admission to any event; (2) at any location, other than a dispensary facility, retailer or hybrid-retailer, (A) where a consumer may purchase any item other than cannabis, a cannabis product or services related to cannabis, and (B) that requires consideration, including, but not limited to, membership in any club, in order to gain admission to such location; or (3) as part of any giveaway, including, but not limited to, any door prize, goodie bag or swag bag, associated with attendance at any event.

Legal means LEGAL. This is just prohibition with extra steps. 🙄
You know what’s legal? Tomatoes 🍅. I can grow tomatoes. I can keep as many tomatoes as I want and give them away to anyone I please. I may have a tomato that you’ve never had before, exposing you to something new. If it’s something you like, you may try to find it at the store. If you want to give me a couple bucks for my troubles… Cool. Or not. They’re tomatoes. Who cares? 🤷🏻♂️
Plus none of this even puts a scratch in the tomato industry. If anything, it becomes an industry supporter in the long haul. How does everyone not see this? And all of these same principles apply to beer and liquor. I can buy brewing kits all over the state and a still from Walmart.
Why wouldn’t I be able to give any of these things away? I like to give things away all of the time, especially if I made it myself. So why is this any different?
To think that I could face legal troubles for giving my mom a joint for Christmas, a bud to my brother for his birthday, or giving a unique bouquet to my loved one for an anniversary is just insane.
Where does it end? Veterans sit outside of outlets and give gifts of fake poppy. Will that stop too? It’s a gift given for money, time, or effort. Will you end bell rings during the holiday season? We give them money to keep ringing to bell. If it’s good for one? Is it not good for all?
What about patients that can’t afford their medical cannabis? The people that pay $200 to a doctor and another $100 to the state to have some sort of legal protection and be ‘graced’ with an ability to step into a dispensary. $896 is the low end current cost for just flower out of a CT dispensary for a maximum allotment of 3.5 oz. Concentrates get WAY more expensive then that. Even if you can afford it all, it can’t be supplied. If I had more than they had… Why wouldn’t I be able to give them some? Why would I be forbidden from helping someone? Why would it be forbidden to share? Sharing is caring.
This is simply prohibition with extra steps. This is like saying that I can’t buy and have a beer with a friend or creating an inability to share a fresh tomato from the garden with a neighbor. It’s certainly saying that I can’t help you, for any reason.
I guess 4 producers with 18 designated outlets just isn’t enough… Forcing me to buy more from you when an entity that can’t supply it all makes total sense to me. Plus with those prices; who needs food?
