Uses of CBD That Will Surprise You
There are more than 60 compounds present in cannabis and CBD is one of them. It belongs to a group of molecules which is termed as Cannabinoids. CBD and THC have the highest presence and are also the most recognised as well as researched on.
It has various benefits and uses. A few impressing uses are-
1. Helps In Curbing Cigarette Craving Addiction
A study was conducted in which 24 randomly selected smokers were selected to either receive a inhaler of placebo or of CBD oil. The experiment advised them to take a puff every time they had an urge to smoke. It was found that with time that the participants with placebo inhalers did not go through any change in the total number of cigarettes consumed by them. Participants who were taking CBD puffs had a dramatic drop of 40% in their intake. What was concluded was that the use of the inhaler reduced the number of cigarettes without increasing nicotine craving in them, which pointed the role of Cannabidiol in the process of withdrawal.
2. Diabetes
CBD was used in a study by NCBI to prevent the development of diabetes in non- obese diabetic mice. The treatment reduced the release of IL- 12 by splenocytes even though there was no direct effect of Cannabidiol on the levels of glucose. As far as autoimmune diseases are concerned, the prevention of cytokine is important.
3. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
It has been known that CBD produced both anti- inflammatory and anti- anxiety effects upon ingestion. It calms down the user and slows everything down. People suffering from PTSD often experience stress and anxiety and can find significant relief if treated with Cannabidiol. A stable environment was provided because of its antipsychotic benefits.
4. Acne
CBD has been proven to be a highly effective treatment option for acne because of its anti- inflammatory and sebostatic properties as it inhibits lipid synthesis. A study was conducted and published about the same in the National Institute of Health and the Journal of Clinical Investigation, thereby concluding that CBD can be beneficial on acne.
5. Multiple Sclerosis
Animal models and cell cultures were used at the Cajal Institute to find out if Cannabidiol had the ability to provide durable protection from impact of multiple sclerosis and reverse inflammatory responses of the same. Mice which were getting treated with CBD oil for 10 days showed superior motor skills and there was progression in their condition. It was concluded that CBD has great ability to decrease various effects of MS.
6. Insomnia
To combat insomnia, CBD- heavy strains and Indica have the potential to make the user sleep. Being a natural herb, it is highly effective in making the user feel ‘tired’. Insomniacs upon using pharmaceuticals can feel groggy and can be prone to addiction. Because of such risks, the best and safest option is to use Cannabidiol.
7. Prion/Mad Cow Disease
Prions are infectious agents and are entirely made up of proteins. They are known to cause diseases like mad cow and Creutzfeldt- Jakob disease. In a study, the accumulation and formation of prions was prevented when Cannabidiol was used. This was published in the Journal of Neuroscience in the year 2007. The survival rate of infected mice in about a week was increased three times when CBD was used.
8. Fibromyalgia
Corticosteroids, opioid pain medications and anti- inflammatory medicines are common treatments for fibromyalgia. A study conducted in 2011 focussed on CBD as a treatment for fibromyalgia and concluded affirmative results for being effective as a treatment. Out of 56 participants, half used Cannabidiol while the other half used traditional ways to treat the condition. Cannabis users experienced a significant reduction in pain and their symptoms. The ones using traditional methods did not see any improvement as such.
CBD is known to be an all- round treatment plan. As the time is passing by, its popularity is increasing. It has proven to be effective among patients, parents, children and even animals.
