The California Department of Cannabis Control has announced a new grant program that will provide $20 million in funding for cannabis businesses in the state. This is the first time that any state has created such a program, and it marks an important step forward for cannabis legalization efforts across the United States.
The California Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) is accepting applications for a grant program to provide entrepreneurship funding to qualified social equity applicants. The DCC will award $20 million in grant funding over the next two years to provide loans, grants and equity investments to social equity applicants such as people with a criminal record or prior drug conviction.
The program will focus on African American females who have been incarcerated and serve as an opportunity for them to start their own businesses while providing employment opportunities within their communities as well as reducing recidivism rates among these individuals through education and training programs offered by DCC staff members who are working alongside these entrepreneurs throughout this endeavor.
The DCC will award $20 million in grant funding over the next two years to provide loans, grants and equity investments to social equity applicants such as people with a criminal record or prior drug conviction.
The program is designed to help these individuals who have been out of work for years, but who are now eligible for employment because they can demonstrate their ability to succeed in the cannabis industry.
The new grant program aims to increase access and opportunity for people who have been wrongfully discriminated against by cannabis laws in California. The grant is funded by the state of California, and it is open to social equity applicants.
In order to qualify for this unique opportunity, applicants must show that their organization has been working on behalf of communities impacted by cannabis prohibition for at least one year prior to applying; they also must demonstrate how their work improves social equity within communities most impacted by these policies such as low-income areas or communities of color (where many users live).
This new grant program aims to increase access and opportunity for people who have been wrongfully discriminated against by cannabis laws in California. This will help ensure that all Californians are treated equally under the law, regardless of their race or ethnicity; gender identity; national origin; immigration status; familial status; income level, age or abilities (including physical, mental and emotional disabilities).
The New California Grant Program is a first of its kind and one that other states should consider following.
