How are will still somehow still all split up on this issue? Seriously.
Do you dislike weed? Well if you don’t like weed, you can always feel free to move to a place like South Carolina, Kansas, Wyoming, or Idaho. They are the last 4 states that still have it listed as entirely illegal.
While at the same time if you LOVE weed and want to be an individual who has Cannabis growing in their living room like house plants, one could always relocate to a place like California, Connecticut, or Maine. This is America, right? We all have choices to make.
It’s still kind of strange if you say it out loud. “46 states along with Washington DC, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands have some sort of cannabis law on the books.“ Everyone either has a medical cannabis program, medical CBD program, hemp industry, has decriminalized, or has just gone straight up legal.
While at the same time weed remains a Schedule 1 Drug (no medical value) on a federal level. Yet they own the patent on it US Patent Number 06630507. Maybe they want to make sure they stay in compliance with their UN agreement signed in 1961 (Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs). Why would the feds legalize anyway? They can strip companies more then 1/2 of their earings. (See 280E Article) Plus again they have the patent, the power is theirs. Everyone is selling their product.
Huh? My brain hurts. Is this how it needs to be? Is this how it should be? Or, is this how it has to be? I’m not sure anymore. It’s legal, it’s not legal, it’s sort of legal…?
Maybe Jenji Kohan spelled it out for the world in the series finale of her hit series Weeds. I loved that show. Anyways. At the end of the series it heavily hinted to the fact that each state had its own deal… Very much like right now. In the end it all came down to local custom. Some states had medical programs, some were full blown legal, everybody was growing while some places had absolutely nothing. Again, kind of like right now.
Possibly on a federal level at some point we may see something similar to The Opium Act of 1919 in the Netherlands, where it’s not legal but tolerated with looser conditions on local levels. But I wouldn’t hold my breath for anything too soon.
This is all Anslinger’s fault! And Nixon was a bastard too!
