Life can be stressful! No one can deny that from time to time, the grind can get to all of us. It’s like hiking, we can’t seem to catch a break until you reach the summit. Having just celebrated US Independence last week, we recently started to think. Are we truly free? Sure, we have a societal feeling that we are all free to make our own decisions, but as a cannabis patient, that is anything but the truth. Even as licensed patients in a medical program, non-consuming people feel the right to stereotype people who consume cannabis. Let’s just say, it’s getting old.
Recently, Connecticut legislators failed in their mission to legalize adult-use. State leadership failed to put the state’s future first by correcting the injustice of cannabis prohibition. Instead, the grown men and women in Hartford fought over tolls like spoiled children. Advocates campaigned tirelessly this past session for cannabis policy reform. It was Connecticut’s elected officials, too consumed with egos and personas, that forget to listen to the people who put them in office in the first place.
Meanwhile…
While Connecticut legislators enjoy their ignorance this summer, state residents don’t need to be left out of experiencing some true liberty, up north of the border. We regularly get asked, what happens after your purchase. First, it is not legal to bring cannabis products back to Connecticut. Secondly, there is no legal public consumption and you can be fined if you are caught in the act.
While it is true, you will not see anyone sparking up as they walk out the dispensary, Some would like for you to believe that even though you can purchase recreationally in Massachusetts, there is no legal place for consumption other than in the home. Sure you could own property, have family or friends, but not everyone does. However, not all is lost. There is a refugee in central MA that will happily greet you with open arms. It’s called the Summit Lounge and it is a private members-only club in Worcester, MA.
The Club
The Summit Lounge is a private, members-only smoking club in Worcester Mass. Members can come and enjoy a safe, relaxed upscale atmosphere. There are different rooms set up to look like a library and a living room, for those looking for a quieter experience or there are two open rooms with plenty of sitting for those looking to socialize. They truly aim to make everyone feel comfortable as if they were sitting in their own homes.
As you walk into the building, you are greeted with friendly smiles from the staff who are eager to help you with your needs. The rooms are cozy, warm with the glow of Edison bulbs and filled with soft music from the club’s sound system. The Summit Lounge provides all the accessories you need as a consumer, minus the cannabis products. They do not sell or condone the selling of any cannabis or related products on the property. If you find yourself thirsty or hungry, there is nothing to worry about. They have snacks and beverages available at a low cost to members. Honestly, it reminds us of a veteran style club, where freedom reigns and you are surrounded by like-minded people. We simply cannot get there enough. If only we had something similar to the Summit Lounge in Connecticut.
The staff at the Summit Lounge are all about the cannabis lifestyle and culture, because of this the club is always full of life. The Summit Lounge leadership is communal oriented. They support those in the community who need it most, they are truly compassionate and it shows as you interact with staff and Summit’s membership. The last time we visited, they were hosting a members’ glass swap. If you know anything about the cannabis community culture, you understand the appreciation of fine glass craftsmanship. On this night, members brought pieces of their collections to showcase and to sell. Let’s just say, there were some amazing pieces of functional art on display, some of which, we were not even willing to touch let alone try to pick up.
Double standards still exist
There is something to say about this place. It is in the heart of Worcester and right across a rather popular local watering hole. We find this so ironic, for something that is not funny at all. You see, even in Massachusetts, some people would like for you to think that cannabis is still a detriment to society and our youth. What is funny is you never have any issues at the Summit Lounge. The police are never there to arrest anyone, not even for disturbances. People aren’t outside causing a scene or getting into trouble. No one under 21 years of age is allowed inside. However, if you ever go outside of the Summit Lounge for any reason, you are almost always guaranteed to see police presence at the popular bar across the street.
So what is keeping you from experiencing the Summit Lounge? You should not hesitate this summer. If you find yourself in the great Commonwealth up north, do yourself a favor and pop on in and tell them Dabbin’ Dad sent you. You will not be disappointed, trust us. We simply love going to Worcester just to say “high.”
