Lincoln, Neb. — Nebraska is a step closer to officially legalizing medical marijuana after a judge’s decision.
Lancaster County District Judge Susan Strong has dismissed a case against Nebraska’s medical marijuana ballot measures, although there is a strong chance that the ruling will be appealed.
71-percent of voters in the state approved Initiative 437 to legalize cannabis for medical purposes in the November 5, 2024 General Election. And 67-percent voted in favor of Initiative 438 to regulate it.
Nebraska’s Secretary of State and and Attorney General have alleged that there was misconduct and fraud when gathering signatures for the measures.
But it was the judge’s finding that they failed to show that enough signatures were invalid.
A representative for the Attorney General’s Office said the Office’s lawyers are considering whether to appeal the results. The results of the election are set to be certified when the Nebraska Board of Canvassers meets on Monday.
