BRIDGEPORT — Higher Collective cannabis dispensary held its grand opening this past weekend, becoming just the second such establishment to open in Connecticut’s largest city since state officials legalized recreational marijuana in 2021.
The site at 3369 Fairfield Ave. is in the Black Rock section of town by the Fairfield border and a former nursery/landscaping business.
City Councilman Scott Burns represents the Black Rock area. He gave credit to Higher Collective for meeting with local community leaders to assuage any concerns people may have had with its operation.
“They wanted to get feedback. I felt they were pretty open about that,” Burns said. He also believes that the business is taking the “social equity” aspect of Connecticut’s recreational marijuana law seriously by supporting the Black Rock Food Pantry.
According to staff the business hopes to benefit from being in the popular Black Rock neighborhood with its mix of restaurants, bars and small shops, plus the fact that Fairfield has placed a moratorium on such establishments.
