After three months of work, state authorities have closed just over 1,000 illegal pot shops across New York, but some unlicensed marijuana sellers are still operating in the north country.
In July, officials from the Office of Cannabis Management shut down five illegal pot shops in the city of Watertown. The locks were changed on the businesses, which all advertised themselves as “smoke shops,” and signs were posted saying the businesses had been sealed by the Cannabis Control Board, the group of appointed officials meant to lead cannabis policy in New York.
