The last day in operation will be Aug. 18, according to a notice posted on the business’ website. The multistate cannabis business will remain in operation in other locations, including at 100 Century Road in Egg Harbor Township.
The company did not respond to a request for comment. The location has had limited hours this summer and is only open to customers with medical marijuana cards due to a city decision not to allow recreational cannabis sales on the Boardwalk.
Last year, the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission approved a request to shut down the Atlantic City medical marijuana location. The business’ parent company, Acreage CCF NJ, cited the Boardwalk ban on recreational weed in its application to the commission.
The location opened in early 2020 as one of the state’s medical marijuana locations, before New Jersey voters said yes to legalizing recreational cannabis possession, use and sales for those over 21. It took two years before the first legal recreational sales took place.
Since then, Atlantic City has gone all in on cannabis, at least off the Boardwalk, with seven adult-use dispensaries open and local planning approvals in place for about 30, with the potential for more on the way.
