OZARK — Two men are facing felony drug charges in connection with separate incidents in which state troopers say they were moving large amounts of illegal marijuana through Franklin County.
Steven McGee, 34, of Halstead, Kan., was arrested Monday morning in connection with felony possession with intent to deliver and drug paraphernalia charges, according to a news release from the State Police.
A trooper stopped a 2020 black Chevrolet Silverado driven by McGee at approximately 8:17 a.m. Monday on Interstate 40 eastbound around the 43-mile marker for a traffic violation, the release states. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of seven large trash bags containing 145 pounds of marijuana in the bed of the pickup, according to police.
The Franklin County jail log shows McGee was booked into the jail at 11:52 a.m. Monday and released at 3:30 p.m. that same day on an unspecified bond amount.
Brent Pope, 42, of Strawberry Plains, Tenn., was arrested in a separate incident Thursday in connection with felony possession with intent to deliver and drug paraphernalia charges, according to the release.
Troopers stopped a black 2014 Dodge pickup driven by Pope eastbound on I-40 at approximately 11:47 a.m. Thursday around the 40-mile marker in Franklin County for a traffic violation, the release states.
Troopers searched the vehicle and found seven large trash bags in the bed of the pickup filled with 202 pounds of illegal marijuana, according to the release.
Pope was booked at the Franklin County Detention Center on Thursday, the release states. He is not currently listed on the jail log.
