HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – Connecticut is seeing a cannabis flower shortage due to a high demand and a short supply.
Dispensaries say they are feeling the strain.
Fine Fettle in Manchester says while they have plenty of edibles and gummies, their most desired product is flower and production can’t keep up.
It’s been a little over a year since adult use cannabis has been legal in Connecticut. On day one, there were four marijuana growers and seven dispensaries.
Now there are 26 dispensaries according to Fine Fettle’s COO Ben Zachs. “There is a lot more demand across the state and we only have one more producer cultivating in the state,” said Zachs.
Zachs said between recreational and medicinal patients, flower has been the most demand out of all of the products.
“We probably have 30 to 40 percent shortage of just the flower,” said Zachs.
He said seeing the demand outweigh the supply isn’t surprising.
“It’s a lot easier to build a store than it is to build and grown and get the plants growing. In fact, the time to build a store is about the same as it is to start your seed to your final plant,” said Zachs.
Zachs said this shortage is one customers are noticing.
“I would say most people are very understanding of what’s going on with the shortage right now and they’re really not taking their frustrations out on us,” said employee Grace Gardener.
Fine Fettle is prioritizing medical patients by putting aside special products however, those are in short supply according to Zachs.
Fine Fettle also said a growing facility is in the works but that will take some time.
