RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT/Gray News) – More than 100 pounds of marijuana was discovered inside of a car being transported on the interstate in Mississippi, authorities say.
While making a traffic stop on a commercial vehicle transport on Interstate 20 Friday, deputies with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team said they became suspicious of one of the vehicles.
During a search of the vehicle, the deputies, with the help of sheriff’s department canines, discovered about 130 pounds of high-grade marijuana in duffel bags in the trunk of the vehicle.
The preliminary investigation suggested that the marijuana originated in California and was destined for a southern state.
Law enforcement in that state has been contacted.
The driver of the commercial vehicle was not charged and had no knowledge of the illegal marijuana in one of the vehicles he was transporting, authorities said.
The street value of the marijuana is approximately $390,000.
