Four teenagers are facing drug charges after Southington police reportedly found them in a wanted vehicle with a large amount of marijuana that was packaged for sale on Wednesday.
Officers converged on a vehicle in a Wendy’s parking lot at 328 Queen St. on Wednesday shortly after 2 p.m. after a FLOCK license plate reader alerted police. The car, a gray Honda Accord, had an improper use of registration, according to the Southington Police Department.
Police located the vehicle in the center of town and followed it to the Wendy’s parking lot, where officers found 19-year-old Juan A. Jimenez of New Britain and three juveniles, who were each 17 years old, inside, police said.
Southington police said that they found “in plain view” a “large amount of marijuana packaged for sale.” According to police, the Honda Accord had also crashed into a Southington police cruiser, causing minor damage, though no injuries were reported.
Jimenez and the three juveniles were taken into custody, and police officers from New Britain were alerted to process the vehicle. Southington police on Thursday did not elaborate on why the vehicle was wanted by authorities.
Jimenez faces three counts of risk of injury to a minor and one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, possession of cannabis greater than 5 ounces, second-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with police/resisting arrest, third-degree criminal mischief, theft of plates/inserts and misuse of marker plates. Police said Jimenez was held on $150,000 bond and was expected to be arraigned Thursday in New Britain Superior Court.
The minors were each issued a juvenile summons and released into the custody of their parents. They each face charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and possession of cannabis greater than 5 ounces.
