BELGRADE, Maine — Two people were arrested Tuesday in connection with illegally cultivating thousands of marijuana plants in Belgrade.
At about 11 a.m. Tuesday, Maine State Police executed two search warrants in Belgrade, one at a home on Guptill Road and one at a home on Point Road.
The search warrants were reportedly executed in response to community complaints, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
In total, 2,300 marijuana plants were seized during the searches, according to Moss.
As a result, state troopers arrested 44-year-old Yuequan Chen of Massachusetts and 66-year-old Li Min Chan of Florida. Both were charged with Class B illegal cultivation of marijuana and Class B unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs (500+ plants), the release stated.
They were both taken to the Kennebec County Jail. This incident remains under investigation.
