As a Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate in Colorado in 2016, Lily Tang Williams supported cannabis legalization, and said this time as a Republican running to represent New Hampshire’s 2nd District in Congress, she would potentially support legalizing cannabis at the federal level.
Tang Williams told WMUR Political Director Adam Sexton her vote for cannabis legalization would depend on how the bill is written and what details are included.
She later noted the confusion over the marijuana marketplace, with many states legalizing it and others not, while at the federal level it’s classified as a “Schedule I” drug, adding, “It’s just really caused lots and lots of issues.” According to the DEA, the “Schedule 1” classification is set aside for substances with “no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.”
Tang Williams added that her philosophy is to support “peaceful users” of marijuana, saying she supports people to make those choices to use it.
In the full segment, which can be seen in the video player above, Tang Williams also addresses the conflicts in the Middle East and the abortion issue.
