Noida: A truck loaded with sacks of cannabis meant for distribution in colleges and universities of Delhi-NCR was intercepted by police on the Yamuna overbridge at Jewar in Greater Noida on Friday. Police also arrested five persons for smuggling 700kg of cannabis from Odisha.
In the last 2 months, more than 1,500 kg of cannabis has been recovered by police in Greater Noida.
DCP Greater Noida Saad Miya Khan said the five men – Lavlesh Sahu, Ram Murat and Anjani Kumar, all residents of Banda district, and Nadeem and Nazeem from Moradabad — were arrested at two places.
“On Friday, we received information that some people were heading to Delhi via Greater Noida with a large consignment of marijuana and setup checks. Beta-2 police caught a Swift car at Honda roundabout and arrested Lavlesh and Ram with 3kg marijuana,” said the officer.
The men told cops that a truck was heading to Greater Noida through Jhuppa village in Haryana.
“Jewar police teams caught the truck on Yamuna overbridge in Jewar and found jute sacks filled with 701 kg marijuana. Three men were arrested and the vehicle was seized,” said Khan.
During interrogation, cops found the consignment had started from Odisha and was meant for supply in Noida and other parts of the NCR, especially around educational institutes.
Two separate FIRs have been lodged at Beta 2 Jewar police stations under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
