HOLYOKE — Trulieve will lay off 90 employees just in Holyoke, according to a notice the Florida-based marijuana company filed this week with the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
All told, Trulieve said Thursday it will lay off 128 employees in Massachusetts closing retail operations in Northampton — on King Street — in Worcester and in Framingham by the end of June and its 126,000-square-foot growing, processing, testing facility at 56 Canal St. in Holyoke by the end of the year.
Trulieve told Holyoke officials it will sell the building.
Trulieve’s stock is traded in Canada where it was down 5.8% Friday selling for $5.20 Canadian. That’s $3.87 a share in U.S. money.
The WARN notice — a federal requirement, WARN stands for Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act — covers only the Holyoke grow facility and factory. The state released it Friday afternoon, one day after Trulieve announced it was pulling out of the state as part of a companywide trimdown.
The layoffs and closings are a reaction to market conditions, Trulieve said.
The company was also disciplined following the 2022 death of Lorna McMurrey, 27, an employee in the Holyoke processing plant who suffered lung problems blamed on breathing dust.
Trulieve was under investigation for potential safety problems even before McMurrey’s death.
