A trip to the golden arches came with an unexpected—and decidedly not kid-friendly—surprise after a Connecticut customer found suspected marijuana stashed inside a children’s Happy Meal toy.
A local woman ordered meals at the South Main Street McDonald’s in Middletown. The routine fast-food run took a bizarre turn when the child popped open a promotional Stranger Things toy and complained that someone had packed it with “rocks.”
Upon closer inspection, those “rocks” turned out to be pungent, leafy cannabis flower tucked right into the toy packaging.
Local police were immediately notified and confirmed they have launched an investigation into how the weed made its way into the combo.
The woman attempted to contact restaurant management, leaving multiple voicemails before finally speaking with a manager who said they had no idea how the substance got inside. Representatives at the franchise and McDonald’s corporate offices did not immediately comment on the incident.
The woman made it clear she isn’t laughing off the mix-up, emphasizing that she came for fast food, not a drive-thru dispensary: “Corporate needs to know this is not OK. If it happened to me, it could happen to someone else. This is about children.”
