Right now, if you want a THC-infused drink in Connecticut, you can’t just order one at a bar. State law currently allows those beverages to be sold only at licensed cannabis retailers and certain liquor/package stores with the proper endorsement. Bars, restaurants, grocery stores, and convenience stores are not allowed to serve them.
But that might change.
Lawmakers in Connecticut are now discussing legislation that would allow bars and restaurants to sell THC-infused beverages, something supporters say could give both the cannabis industry and struggling hospitality businesses a boost.
The idea is simple: offer low-dose cannabis drinks as an alternative for people who want a buzz without alcohol. With THC seltzers and similar products becoming more popular nationwide, some businesses think they could become a new social option—kind of like ordering a beer, just with cannabis instead.
Not everyone is on board, though.
Some lawmakers and industry groups are worried about how mixing THC and alcohol in the same venue would be regulated. Concerns range from how bartenders would recognize cannabis intoxication to how police would handle impaired driving if people are consuming both substances in one night.
For now, the rule is pretty simple:
If you want a cannabis drink in Connecticut, you’ll need to buy it at a dispensary or an approved liquor store and take it home.
Ordering one at the bar?
That’s still a debate happening at the Capitol. 🌿🍹
