For a state that spent decades pretending marijuana didn’t exist, Connecticut is suddenly acting like it’s trying to win an Olympic medal in dispensary openings.
The latest town on deck might be Rocky Hill.
A Missouri-based cannabis company, Shangri‑La Dispensaries, is exploring plans to open a hybrid cannabis dispensary in town. Hybrid shops are the Swiss Army knives of the weed world — they sell to both recreational customers and medical marijuana patients under the same roof.
The company already has a foothold in the state, operating cultivation and manufacturing facilities in Stratford and Waterbury. Now it’s looking to expand its retail footprint as Connecticut’s cannabis market continues its awkward teenage growth phase.
And the company isn’t thinking small. Shangri-La has said it hopes to open five more dispensaries in Connecticut by 2026, which means the state’s map could soon start looking like someone spilled green pins across it.
Rocky Hill hasn’t signed off on anything yet, and the exact location hasn’t been revealed. But the discussions show just how competitive the cannabis market has become as companies scramble to claim their slice of the Green Rush.
Not long ago, buying marijuana in Connecticut meant whispered conversations and sketchy parking lots. Now the biggest challenge might soon be deciding which dispensary to visit on your way home from work.
Progress comes in many forms. Sometimes it smells like weed and looks like another Apple store. 🌿😄
