In a significant crackdown on unauthorized cannabis sales, New Haven authorities confiscated approximately 100 pounds of illicit marijuana products from three local smoke shops on Wednesday. The seized items encompassed a variety of cannabis derivatives, including edibles, vapes, concentrates, and flower.
These unannounced inspections were initiated following a series of citizen complaints alleging illegal sales and associated criminal activities. City officials emphasized that this operation marks the commencement of intensified enforcement efforts aimed at ensuring compliance with Connecticut’s marijuana regulations.
“This enforcement has been the result of a combination of citizen complaints, illegal sales, and associated criminal behavior and will be part of increased inspections going forward in order to ensure the accountability of store owners and employees in following marijuana laws in Connecticut,” stated New Haven officials in a press release.
A press conference is scheduled for Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the New Haven Police Department headquarters. Mayor Justin Elicker and Police Chief Karl Jacobson will discuss the outcomes of the enforcement action. They will be joined by Ronald Higgens, Commissioner of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection; Bryan T. Cafferelli, Commissioner of the Department of Consumer Affairs; and representatives from the Connecticut State Police.
This operation underscores the city’s commitment to upholding state laws and addressing community concerns regarding illegal cannabis distribution. Officials have indicated that further inspections and enforcement actions will continue as part of an ongoing effort to regulate the sale of cannabis products within New Haven.
