NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB) – Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that a Dallas man was recently arrested on felony drug charges following a drug stop on I-49, near Natchitoches.
According to NPSO, Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Tactical Narcotics Agent J. Steinke alongside the Natchitoches Drug Enforcement Unit stopped a commercial vehicle on I-49 for a traffic violation.
Authorities said they suspected criminal activity, so they called NPSO Sergeant A. Llorence and their drug detection K-9, Roka, to the scene.
Roka reportedly alerted to the presence of narcotics after which authorities searched the vehicle and discovered about 18.5 lbs. of suspected marijuana and about $7000 in cash.
According to the Oxford Treatment Center, that amount of marijuana has a street value of over $75,000.
Authorities identified the driver as Vincent Carter, 48, of Dallas. They later learned that Carter was on felony federal probation.
Carter was arrested, taken to the LaSalle Corrections Center in Natchitoches and booked on felony drug charges.

Possession of CDS I Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
Improper lane usage
Federal probation violation
All seized evidence was submitted to a crime lab for analysis and the cash was taken to the Natchitoches District Attorney’s Office for asset forfeiture proceedings.
An investigation remains ongoing.
