There’s something about Mother’s Day that hits different when you’re a little high. Maybe it’s the way weed slows your brain down just enough to actually think about stuff. Like really think about it.
You start remembering all the tiny things your mom did that felt normal at the time. The rides to school. The random snacks appearing in the kitchen. The way moms somehow know you’re sick before you do. The absolute psychic power of hearing “be careful” five seconds before you do something incredibly stupid.
And honestly? Moms deserve a holiday bigger than brunch reservations and gas station flowers.
Being a mom looks exhausting. It’s basically running a 24-hour emotional support hotline while also being a chef, therapist, medic, chauffeur, detective, accountant, and sometimes a literal referee breaking up fights over things like who touched whose G.I. Joe.
Meanwhile, half of us can barely keep a houseplant alive.
I was sitting outside earlier, smoking a joint and watching the trees move around in the wind, thinking about how moms are kind of like gravity. You don’t always notice it’s there because it’s constant. But without it? Everything flies apart fast.
And the older you get, the weirder it becomes realizing your mom was just a person the whole time. Not some all-knowing wizard. Just somebody trying their best while carrying an impossible amount of responsibility and somehow still remembering your favorite cereal.
That’s superhero stuff.
So today feels like a good day to slow down a little. Call your mom if you can. Hug her if she’s around. Tell her one specific thing she did that mattered to you. Moms hear “love you” all the time. But hearing “I still remember when you stayed up with me when I was sick” hits way harder.
And if your relationship with your mom is complicated, Mother’s Day can feel strange too. Life’s messy. Families are messy. Sometimes the holiday is about appreciating the people who stepped into that role instead — grandmothers, stepmoms, older sisters, aunts, family friends, or anybody who showed up when it counted.
That matters too.
Either way, light one up for the moms today.
They earned it.
Keep it weird,
